We have been toying with the idea of moving since a month after we came back from Korea. Jonathan recently received a pretty sweet job offer and we couldn’t resist an opportunity to live and work in an exciting place. We’re packing our bikes, our computers, our backpacks and suitcases and heading to China for a year. We’re set to leave in about a week and the decision was just as sudden for us as it may be for the readers and our friends.
Regrets? Unfortunately we’re leaving behind our cats. Jonathan’s mom reluctantly agreed to take care of them. We are also leaving behind a very comfortable living situation. For the past 7 months we have been living in a house with our good friends. It will be sad to leave behind random drinking nights, Battlestar Galactica board games and the hot tub. Yes, we are leaving behind a hot tub, maybe this wasn’t the best decision after all.
I am more excited than I am anxious about this move. I am not looking forward to carrying our luggage around the airport or the 14 hour flight in a middle seat. I am a little worried about the pollution in the metropolis of 26 million people. I am sad to leave my friends and my family for another year.
However I am tremendously excited about receiving another opportunity to travel in a very interesting part of the world. I am excited about meeting new people, playing Ultimate frisbee in a new country and learning about China.
